Merry Christmas From Outgro

Merry Christmas All,

As 2012 is nearing to an end and the festive season approaches I would like to take a moment to reflect over the last few years and we at Outgro would also like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your continued support over the past 12 months or more.

It was around 6 years ago when I had the vision to create a fertiliser system that used science, innovation, technology and detailed analysis of both soil and plant to then manufacture customised fertiliser blends that we could deliver and apply to each of your farming operations; a fertiliser system that gave equal consideration to all three parts to the soil (Chemical, Physical and Biological) and recognised the important role of beneficial soil biology.

The reason why we decided to develop a system where we manufactured our customised blends in a fluidised form was to provide the ability to equally distribute all essential elements required for optimal plant growth and animal performance. Manufacturing our customised blends in a fluidised form also allowed us to use more naturally occurring base minerals and instead of using sulphuric acid to improve the availability we can greatly reduce the particle size and use the enzyme process of beneficial soil life.

Some of the other benefits of applying fertiliser in a fluidised form is the improved ability to apply your customised blends where and when you want them, therefore eliminating dust, improving nutrient utilisation and minimising any negative impact to the environment.

I would also like to take this opportunity to say a special thank you to those of you that were our original clients that have been using the Outgro system for the last four or more years now. I know that a change in your fertiliser approach is not something to take lightly as it is one of your larger on farm expenses and has the ability to substantially impact on farm performance.

One thing I have observed over the years is that it can be relatively tough for you the farmer during the first few years when embarking on a new fertiliser regime. Often the minute something is not going to plan on the farm you can instantly start to think maybe it’s the fertiliser. What I have also noticed is that when you get into the 3rd and 4th years of using the Outgro system the results start to become unquestionable.

Now that we have over four years of quality data stored in our web based software system (CDS) from our earlier clients we have been able to start to put together a consolidated results to provide you with additional confidence in the long term sustainable benefits of the Outgro system. Into the New Year we will not only be looking to provide some independent validation around the economic benefits farmers are achieving under the Outgro system but also show evidence that these benefits are being achieved under a system that is less reliant on synthetic inputs, reducing our environmental impact which will assist you in complying with the increasing level of regulation around P runoff and N leaching.

Another thing that has become clear is that to maximise the benefits of using the Outgro system it is more than just about fertiliser, as there is real value to introducing diversity to your pasture sward and to also reviewing grazing management. For that reason Outgro has looked to bring on board as part of our team a pasture diversity/regrassing/cropping specialist (Arron Hutton). We are intending to hold on farm field days on a number of properties that have adopted grazing management system to get the best from both their animals and diversified pastures.

May your holiday season and the New Year be filled with much joy, happiness and success; it’s the time to remember friends and family.

We look forward to working with you in the coming year to continue to look at ways in which we can continue to add value to your farming businesses and lead the way in improving New Zealand’s image as a quality food producer, increasing the productivity of your land all while minimising our impact on the environment.

“Remember if you keep doing things the same way, don’t expect anything to change”

We will be closing down from 5pm on the 21st Dec until 8am on the 7th January.

Warm regards,

Jim McMillan
